A commander from Kakamega Police Station was tricked by a woman who left her two-day-old baby at Lurambi Administration Police Camp on Monday.
The 23-year-old woman went to the AP camp at 4pm and requested the police commander for a small favour, The Standard reported.
The mother narrated that she had run out of money but wanted to travel to her ancestral home in Malava Sub-county.
"She claimed she had just been discharged from Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital," the police commander narrated.
It was at this point that the police commander left to go and get some money, when she found the child dumped at the AP post on returning.
"The infant was rescued by the camp's officers and taken to Kakamega Police Station for booking, from there, the child was taken to the referral hospital for a medical checkup and pronounced healthy," Kabena disclosed.
She was later taken to a children's home located in Bukura, Kakamega County.
The police commander told reporters that the search for the missing mother had heightened and announced that she should surrender herself to any police station near her.
Authorities also urged the missing woman's parents to hand her over to the police in case they found her.
"We already have leads and we will surely arrest and have her charged if she won't present herself," Kabena remarked.
