Court Rejects Secret Video of CSs in La Mada Meeting

During his hearing in court on Thursday, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi claimed that he had a video of Mt. Kenya Cabinet Secretaries during the La Mada Hotel where the alleged assassination plot on DP Ruto was hatched.

The Star reported that in an affidavit, Itumbi revealed that he had audio and video recording material of the meeting which had Cabinet secretaries Sicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru and Peter Munya summoned to DCI headquarters to record statements.

He, however, failed to disclose the sources of the video stating that he was bound by journalistic ethics.

His request to play the clip in court was rejected by Senior Resident Magistrate Zainab Abdul stating that the case was not at the stage where he could avail such evidence.

The magistrate stated that Itumbi hadn't taken a plea and as such could not be allowed to submit the clips to the court.

Itumbi will spend more days in jail after the police were allowed five more days to hold Itumbi for investigations to be carried out.

While applying for bail Itumbi stated that his life was in danger.

"For my life, safety and well-being, I pray in respect to the application to be released from custody for lack of cause or reason. I have not and will not interfere with any witnesses. I am ready to comply with any conditions the court may impose to my release," he argued.

At the same time, the DCI is seeking 256 members of a WhatsApp group where Itumbi shared the alleged assassination letter with.

The Tanga tanga WhatsApp group is under investigation and its members are expected to record statements with the police.
