IG Mutyambai's Impromptu Visit Catches Officers by Surprise [PHOTOS]

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai, on Tuesday, caught a multi-agency team manning a roadblock along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway by surprise following an impromptu visit.

The IG, who was on his way to the launch of the Kenya Police Sacco, Kakamega branch, noted that a roadblock had been erected along the highway and decided to inspect.

Mutyambai's visit caught officers manning the roadblock from the Judiciary, NTSA, EACC, Office of the DPP and the National Police Service unawares.

The police boss noted that the roadblock had been mounted according to the instructions that he had given in a memo.

He oversaw the arrest of several traffic offenders and even had one motorcycle rider bundled onto a waiting police lorry.

Mutyambai’s memo had earlier instructed that the roadblock should never be mounted by police alone, but should also include other departments.

This move was to ensure that corruption in the traffic department is minimised and ensure quick justice to the offenders.

After the inspection, the IG proceeded to Kisumu where he visited the construction site of the Kisumu port after meeting Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.

He then met officers from the six counties of Nyanza region at the Tom Mboya Labour College, Kisumu, on a  familiarization and sensitization tour on the ongoing police reforms.

The IG was accompanied by Vincent Makokha, the Nyanza Regional Police Commander.
