Section of Ngong Road to Be Closed on Sunday

Motorists operating in Nairobi have been advised to avoid Ngong road on Sunday, to pave way for ongoing road works.

In a statement, The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), announced that a busy section of the road would remain closed from dusk until dawn.

Ongoing construction in the area was mooted as the main reason for the closure of the busy road.

"Due to the ongoing Expansion of Ngong Road section between Prestige Plaza and Dagoreti Corner, traffic at Uchumi Ngong Hyper will be disrupted on Sunday, July 14, 2019, as from 7 AM till 8 PM," KURA tweeted.

Motorists were consequently advised to find alternative routes on the given day to avoid any inconveniences.

The ever-busy Ngong road serves hundreds of thousands of Nairobi residents every single day, linking towns as Ngong, as well as countless estates, to the CBD.

However, there are various options within the area such as Riara, Kilimani and Kindaruma roads, which all run parallel to the highway, that can be used while avoiding the cordoned off area.

The first phase of the expansion of the busy road into a dual carriage hit a major milestone last year, after the first phase completion and official opening.

A Japanese firm undertook works on the project spanning 2.5km between Kenya National Library and the Prestige Plaza.

Phase two of the Construction runs from Prestige Plaza to Dagoreti corner, while the final phase is expected to start from Dagoretti corner to the Karen Shopping Centre.
