Ruto's Remarks on DCI Night Before CS Rotich's Arrest [VIDEO]

On Sunday evening, the night before the arrest of Treasury CS Henry Rotich, Deputy President William Ruto, was put to task to explain whether he had confidence in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and its boss, George Kinoti.

Ruto had previously been quoted by the media opposing a statement by DCI Kinoti, about corruption in the Kimwarer and Arror dams project, claiming that the project was above board.

"The DCI (Kinoti) and every public officer have a duty and responsibility to manage their offices in the best interests of the Republic of Kenya," Ruto told K24 TV's Anne Kiguta on Sunday evening.

"That's their duty, is it your confidence that is what they are doing?" Ms Kiguta posed.

"If they weren't doing their jobs as they should, then they shouldn't be in office," he responded.

The DP explained that he had been misquoted to appear as though he was attacking the DCI.

"He (DCI Kinoti) will be held accountable when that is necessary," Ruto added.

Speaking about the fight against corruption, later in the interview, the DP expressed confidence that Kenya was winning the war.

"We have made sure that they have sufficient independence to be able to execute their mandate," he assured.

The following day, at around noon, CS Rotich presented himself to the DCI headquarters, along Kiambu Road, after DPP Noordin Haji ordered his detention, in relation to the Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.

"On September 18, 2018, DCI received complaints on operations at 2 dam projects –Arror and Kimwarer. Investigations revealed that the conception, procurement and payment processes were riddled with massive illegalities.

"Public corruption is a blatant abuse of power. Our message to every law-abiding Kenyan is that we are going to stand by you," Haji spoke while issuing the orders.
