A cabinet secretary and a governor have allegedly been linked to the murders of four firm directors from Kihiu Mwiri Farmers Company.
Reports by The Standard indicated that top county officials, including a county commissioner and senior police officers, are being instigated for the killings.
The directors of the firm were allegedly murdered in order to silence opposition to illegal acquisition of part of the 1288 acres owned by the firm.
In an ongoing case, High Court judge Joel Ngugi acquitted four suspects who had been implicated in the case and cited that some witnesses were terrified of testifying in open proceedings.
The judge noted that the witnesses later followed him and testified that the firm was linked to a cabinet secretary.
“I also met a prominent lawyer about Breeze Farm. I also know that the cabinet secretary (name not mentioned) was one of the owners of Breeze Farm. This was the name I did not want to mention. These are the three people I know that claim Breeze belongs to them,” the judge read the witnesses quotes.
"I also know that Breeze Ltd was involved in the deaths. This was the true cause of the conflicts of Kihiu Mwiri,” the publication added.
The court heard that a rival group sold a part of the land belonging to Kihiu Mwiri to prominent people in the government.
Judge Ngugi noted that the desire of the prominent individuals to own the land at all cost was one of the reasons why some of the individuals had been murdered.
He also questioned why sleuths had spared senior government officials mentioned in the case.
