Waititu's Office Relocation Triggers Bitter Fight

Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu's decision to relocate his office to Nairobi, is the root cause of a bitter fight involving two factions of his staffers.

According to a report by The Standard, The two factions are torn between whether the county government is successfully dispensing its mandate with Waititu's authority or not.

Two weeks ago, the governor was barred from accessing his office after he was named as a party connected to the loss of Ksh588 county money, through corrupt dealings.

One group, which consists of Deputy Governor James Nyoro and Kinoo MCA Kimani Wanjiku, argues that since the governor was barred, the county has been carrying out operations regularly and that employees salaries were dispensed on time.

"The only time we may need the governor is when the county assembly will approve a supplementary budget and he will be required to sign. When that time comes, we will see what to do. There are so many avenues that can be explored," argued Wanjiku.

He further added that the county secretary, county executive members and chief officers ensured the success of the county's operations.

The other team has, however, maintained that there is a serious leadership vacuum in the county given that the governor is responsible for assenting to county bills and hiring has been frozen.

He further divulged that the term of the county public service board had expired and that a new team could not occupy the office until the governor swears them in.

"We currently have a very serious leadership vacuum in the county. Operations are almost grounding to a halt and things are at standstill. There are several bills awaiting to be assented by the governor but that cannot now happen," argued Witeithie MCA,Julius Taki.

Since Waititu was barred from accessing his office, reports emerged that he had set up a parallel office in Nairobi where he allegedly held meetings with his cabinet members, county executives and some staff.
