Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Noordin Haji, on Friday, responded to former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, over a letter allegedly authored by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
In the letter, Kabogo and nine others were supposedly wanted for prosecution in relations to confessions made by Baktash Akasha, Ibrahim Akasha and Vijayghiri Goswami alias Vijay Goswami in the course of normal conduct and harm to citizens and residents of the United States of America.
"The above named have pled guilty to six counts of criminal conduct including distribution and sale of Class A and Class B substances namely heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines and the sale, distribution and use of illegal firearms," read part of the letter.
The office of the DPP has now affirmed that it has not received any letter purported to have been written by Interpol.
"The DPP Noordin Haji has not received the following letter circulating on social media purported to have been written by Interpol containing a list of wanted Kenyans for adversely being mentioned in the Akashas' drug case," DPP posted on Twitter referring to the letter.
Following the wide circulation of this letter, the former governor of Kiambu, in a Facebook post, has urged the DPP to ensure those involved in distributing the letter are arrested.
"Dismissing is not enough. It’s criminal to distribute such material. CALL FOR THE ARREST OF THOSE INVOLVED.
That’s what happens in countries that are guided by the rule of law. And if not let us know so we/and or I can defend myself as in the rule of the jungle," he warned.
On August 28, 2019, Kabogo called out on those who were distributing the letter, citing they were propagating fake news.
