Mohammed Ali Tears Into Joho Over Controversial Contract

Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, on Monday, made a request to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) as well as the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) concerning Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

The legislator called on the two government bodies to take action against Joho's family over the alleged graft.

Speaking at a function in Mombasa, the MP urged DCI and DPP bosses George Kinoti and Noordin Haji to investigate on the matter.

"I want to the DPP and the DCI to take action on Joho's family. We saw what was written in the newspaper. We are not ready to watch the poor suffer because of transporters, we shall not accept to be exploited," he dared.

The former investigative journalist claimed that the Mombasa port was set to favour one family on the coast, that was granted the Nairobi and Naivasha ports.

According to the vocal MP, traders have suffered from the development because goods are transported straight to Naivasha.

He further attacked Joho stating that it was time for him to leave office, for good.

"We must tell the Governor of Mombasa to pack and go and never think of being a leader here in Mombasa again."

"We do not want to see him because he has failed us big time. He has been an MP in Kisauni for 10 years, an Assistant minister, and a Governor forseven years yet he says he was to bring development now, after a refurendum," criticised Mohammed Ali.

This comes after an article on the Daily Nation that put Joho and Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on the spot over a deal involving the proposed takeover of a strategic Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) facility that was built using public funds.

The governor's family-owned Autoport Freight Terminals Ltd is poised to take over a central Nairobi SGR goods facility in a controversial deal bringing into question the operations of the multi-billion SGR project.

The Nation revealed that the KRC had offered the said company a 45-year lease that involves exclusive use of the Nairobi Freight Terminal (NFT), near the SGR terminal in Syokimau.

This move locked out other industry players who use the new railway cargo services from the site.

The Mombasa-based company has reportedly been piling pressure on the KRC to be awarded the contract.

In early August, it is stated that there was a confrontation with Kenya Railways Corporation after the company's billboard was pulled down at the  Nairobi Freight Terminal (NFT) even before the deal was approved.

Reports also revealed that the deal was supposed to be offered to the company in November 2018, however, KRC canceled on realisation that investigative agencies had trained an eye on them.
