Cohen's Wife Requests Freedom to Fight for Property

The late Tob Cohen's widow, Sarah Wairimu, on Monday, September 16, requested the court to release her on bail so that she could embark on fighting for her property.

Through her lawyer, Philip Murgor, Wairimu stated that she had a pending divorce case in court, adding that she needed to fight for a 50 percent stake in property jointly owned with her husband.

The court heard that their Kitusuru home, valued at Ksh 400 million, risked being grabbed since nobody lived at the house.

"Wairimu's housekeepers were chased away after the body was retrieved," Murgor stated.

He refuted claims that the house had been handed over to Cohen's sister, Gabrielle Van Straten, as The Standard reports.

Wairimu's lawyer added that the prosecution did not have enough reasons to continue detaining her client.

On their part, the state told Justice Jesse Lessit that more time was needed to conduct a post-mortem examination to establish what killed Cohen.

They requested that Wairimu takes plea on September 26.

The Dutch billionaire's body was found buried in his home, more than 60 days after he had been reported missing.

"Cohen was murdered in his own residence. It is a gruesome murder. They took their time to kill innocent Cohen. I will not describe much now, but in the subsequent unfolding of events," DCI boss George Kinoti told the press on Friday, September 13.
