Citizen TV's Swaleh Mdoe Takes a Swipe at Fellow Anchors

Senior Citizen TV senior Swahili reporter Swaleh Mdoe on Thursday, September 26 took a swipe against his fellow journalists on social media over the love of titles.

Mdoe who is known for his segment 'Tafakari ya Babu' after the 7 p.m. Swahili news bulletin questioned the love of titles.

"Kenyans are obsessed with big titles. Dr, Professor, Engineer so-and-so. Senior Editor, Senior Anchor," he tweeted.

He noted that despite the title before one's name, in the newsroom the responsibilities that they undertook were similar.

"What seniority is there when we are editing the same copy or reading news?" Swaleh asked.

The veteran news anchor then went ahead to troll his colleagues with the now-famous word by Pastor James Maina Ng'ang'a 'labbish'.

"Just asking senior media gurus. Labish," he added.

In 2018 he was demoted from a Managing Editor for Swahili services at Royal Media Services after he had announced that he was selling his kidney for Ksh2.5 million due to financial constraints.

Swaleh describes himself as an Editor/News Producer-Kiswahili -cum -Anchor and a published author with six books. He is also a public speaker and corporate emcee.

Swaleh's most recent book, TV News Anchoring, offers lessons to upcoming TV anchors.

He claims the book offers the 'kind of practical advice that an aspiring journalist cannot get from any journalism school'.
