There are very few moments in Kenyan history where an everyday mwananchi has sued, or even attempted to sue one of the most powerful people in the country.
One of those rare moments was when Deputy President Wiliam Ruto's neighbours threatened to take him to court for the most unlikely dispute.
In an interview conducted by K24 TV in 2014, the deputy president recalled a time his neighbours almost sued him for extending his fence beyond the borders.
"There is a time one of the neighbours approached me and said that I had extended my fence to the road. He said that he and other neighbours would sue me about the issue.
"However, I told him that there was no need to sue me and assured that I would reconstruct the fence," Ruto narrated.
The deputy president noted that his neighbours treated him just like any ordinary Kenyan, adding that he had lived in that neighbourhood for ten years.
While asked what his favourite football team was, Ruto stated that he was a great fan of Arsenal.
In yet another 2013 interview conducted by Citizen TV, the witty deputy president narrated a time he attempted to leave his home without his security detail but ended up being locked inside the compound.
"I used to enjoy driving myself around that's no longer possible. One afternoon I was at home and I decided to drive to the office and do something, so I got into the car and I drove to the gate. However, the security guard told me he was sorry but he could not open the gate and I asked him why. He said that it's not right, 'let me call the security detail'," Ruto stated as he laughed about it.
The second in command noted that there were many things he enjoyed doing before he became the DP, that he could not do anymore.
