Ruto's Headline on The Standard Touches Itumbi's Raw Nerve

Digital strategist and blogger Dennis Itumbi, on Monday, September 30, lashed out The Standard after a headline on Deputy President dismayed him.

In an attempt to paint the picture of Kibra campaigns, the paper pitted Ruto with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in a cover headline that read "Ruto vows to teach Raila a lesson in Kibra".

The DP, in the article, is reported to have vowed to pitch camp in the constituency and also hit at Raila for claiming to have the region's backing yet it was massively underdeveloped under his watch.

Annoyed, Itumbi tore into the editors of the paper claiming that they just devised the headline to sell more copies and that the article did not hold any substance.

He further called out the scribes from the paper arguing that the race was between candidates and that Ruto and Raila had nothing to do with it.

"Sometimes, headlines are the creative imagination of sub-editors. The race in Kibra is between candidates cleared by their political parties.

"Reading the story by The Standard there is no single quote that supports the headline. DP William Ruto addressed issues. Media Spin!" Wondered Itumbi.

In July, the blogger went after Sunday Nation claiming that the paper had lowered its standards by reporting that two Ruto's aides were being sought over the controversial assassination letter of the DP.

“Journalism is at its lowest form when Daily Nation pens a story and reproduces allegation after allegation - but does not bother to call or text any of the communication officers in the presidency they claim are being sought by DCI Kenya and are in hiding. Objective verification,” posted Itumbi at the time.

Interestingly, Itumbi was arrested a few days after in connection with the controversial letter before being released on bail shortly after.
