Tycoon's Murder Unearths Plot to Take Over Wealth

The murder of Nairobi-based tycoon Jimmy Babarum revealed new details surrounding his mysterious death, Daily Nation reported on Saturday, October 12.

Amina Shiraz, the woman implicated in the murder came out to defend herself by claiming that her father-in-law was forcing her prosecution.

In a submission to the court, Shiraz disclosed that the tycoon's father Jagaruth Babarum was desperate to have her locked in prison.

She also mentioned that the reason behind her court case was the father-in-law who wanted to take over the son's wealth.

Shiraz was charged with the murder of her husband Jimmy Babarum with the alleged offence happening on July 26, 2015, at Medina Palms Resort in Watamu, Kilifi County.

Ahmednasir Abdullahi, the defence lawyer, argued," The case is not about the death of the son; to find who killed him. It is about a fight over the fortunes of the deceased."

Senior Assistant Director of Prosecution Vincent Monda, however, narrated that the evidence presented by the prosecution was credible and reliable.

"We disagree with the assertion that the witness was coached to come and tell lies in court," Monda affirmed.

Daily Nation on March 2019, that Jimmy Babarum was an expert arms dealer who supplied weapons to the Kenya Defence Forces.

He died while vacationing with his family in Kilifi with a postmortem report showing that he had died from drowning.

His wife, who was with him on vacation, was pointed out as the main suspect and was arrested in 2015.

Three months later when Shiraz was charged with the murder alongside an American citizen identified as Jacob Schmalzle and Sergeant Abdi Sheikh — a Watamu-based police officer who was accused of concealing evidence to botch the murder investigation.
