Striking Similarities Between Hussein Mohamed and Waihiga Mwaura

On Friday, November 1, Royal Media Services announced that Waihiga Mwaura would replace Hussein Mohamed who hosted his last show on October 29.

Kenyans.co.ke decided to look at the striking similarities between the duo in their career paths as they rose to the top of the TV world.

First and foremost is that both started as a sports journalist at the station.

In his farewell message to Hussein, Senior Sports Anchor Mike Okinyi rekindled moments when Hussein was part of his team and noted that, despite having left to pursue other roles within the media house, he was proud of him.

The case is not different with Wahiga Mwaura who was also a sports journalist and his passion for developing quality sports pieces won him the 2018 BBC World News Komla Dumor Award.

Second, a source from the station told Kenyans.co.ke that the duo, during their time at Royal Media's sports department were oriented by Mike Okinyi.

Though they were hired at different times, they were both placed under the seasoned sports anchor who showed them the ins and outs of sports journalism.

After leaving the sports world, they both found themselves hosting the Citizen TV breakfast morning show 'Power Breakfast' which was later rebranded to 'Daybreak'.

Hussein read news alongside former Citizen TV anchor Janet Mbugua before she left him to run the show alone.

For Waihiga, he was partnered with Jacque Maribe until she was barred by the court after being implicated in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in late 2018.

Wahiga and Hussein's rise at Royal Media Services, in all appearances, mirrors a classical case of same script different cast.
