Kiambu Residents Lay Ground for Waititu's 'Punishment'

On Wednesday, November 6, various wards in Kiambu County submitted over 200,000 signatures to the assembly to have their governor Ferdinand Waititu impeached.

The petition was led by a group called Okoa Kiambu, who want the governor impeached for allegedly plundering public funds in the country.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone, Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi confirmed that enough signatures had already been collected.

"They have been taken the petition to the assembly and if passed, a bill will be created to impeach him," Omondi told Kenyans.co.ke.

The #OkoaKiambu was among the top trends on Twitter on Wednesday, with many advocating for the governor's impeachment.

"Punda amechoka, it's time we take the corrupt leaders homes," Iraki Cess commented.

"Fighting corruption starts with us, public money belonging to Kiambu residents cannot go to individual pockets," pau weighed in.

Efforts to reach the governor for a comment on the development were futile as our calls went unanswered up to the time of publishing.

On Wednesday, October 30, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions reveled that it had lined up 68 witnesses who were ready to testify against the governor together with his co-accused.

Waititu, his wife and a number of officials from the county stand accused of embezzling public funds to the tune of Ksh588 million.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke at the time, Waititu, expressed confidence that his defence would orevail in court and disclosed that he had no intention of entering into a plea bargain.
