NTV Journalist Crowned World's Best in Colourful Gala

NTV's celebrated journalist, Rose Wangui, on Saturday, November 9, joined the elite group of journalists who have bagged the prestigious Knight International Journalism Award.

Speaking at the elegant event held in Washington DC, the veteran journalist stated that she would keep using her platform to give a voice to the less fortunate.

The scribe was awarded for her fearless approach in highlighting sensitive topics such as sexual bondage of young girls in Kenya.

"Each time I tell a story, I try to ensure that every word that I write bears the hopes and dreams of those people in the villages, towns and slums who may never have the opportunity that I have to reach a bigger audience.

Ms Wangui went on to emphasise that it was the responsibility of every journalist to leave a positive mark on society.

"Journalists should strive to tell stories that change people's perception and make society better," she stated during her acceptance speech.

The Knight International Journalism Award recognizes excellent reporting that makes a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Recipients of the Knight International Journalism Award are reporters, editors, technologists, media managers or citizen journalists who, despite difficult circumstances, produce pioneering news reports or innovations that make a significant impact in their countries.

Some of Wangui's feature stories such as beads of bondage and schools of misery sparked a national debate, forcing the relevant authorities and well-wishers into action.
