Governor's Medical Report Baffles Senators During Grilling

Senators were on Thursday, November 14, baffled when a governor submitted a medical report whose contents they couldn't comprehend.

Reports by K24 Digital indicated that Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti appeared before the County Public Accounts and Investment (CPAIC) to answer questions about his administration's expenditure.

During the session, he tabled a medical report that had been authored in German.

The committee chaired by Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang could not understand the contents of the document and were left confused.

Governor Awiti intended to use the document to explain why he had been away from office for a prolonged period.

“I have been unwell. I cannot even read well now. I was recently in Germany and India for treatment. My eyes are really troubling me,” stated the governor.

The county boss also disclosed that he was also not in a position to answer audit questions for the 2017/18 financial year since was away on sick leave.

Awiti added that he had been fighting a court case challenging his re-election and had been distracted from discharging his duties.

In June, the county boss was rushed to Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu and later transferred to Nairobi two weeks after he returned from a three-month medical leave.
