Ex-Saitoti Aide Uhuru Entrusts With Jubilee's Agenda

Working in the backgrounds of the Jubilee party's everyday machinations is the University of Nairobi trained Albert Mwemusi.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, December 5, Mwemusi revealed that his venture into politics was not recent, despite his relatively obscure online presence, which he claims is purposeful since it is not his role to shine but that of his bosses.

"I started off with the late George Saitoti where I worked as his part of his team when he took a stab at presidency before his demise, after which I joined Kibaki's Party of National Unity (PNU) as an executive director. I played a role in Jubilee's campaigns and one thing led to another and I ended up as the Jubilee party's communications director," he stated.

Before working with Saitoti, he had been appointed by the late John Michuki in the Ministry of Environment where he played a role in programs launched by the late minister aimed at reafforestation and saving riparian land.

Speaking about his job, he intimated that his role in the Jubilee party and that of the secretariat, for the most part, did not involve politics and politicians but more about interactions with the citizens in relation to party affairs.

"We work for the Mwananchi (citizen). They are the ones who engage with us directly. When politicians are done with their campaigns, they retreat to their constituencies. Rarely will you hear a citizen asking a politician about how to register or open a party office, or about audit reports or the party's manifesto. It is our role as the secretariat to furnish the people with such information," he stated.

Mwemusi is a marketing communication professional, having worked with major firms in the country, including the Keroche Breweries where he honed his communication skills.

He told Kenyans.co.ke that he was well aware of the fact that party's popularity might rise and dip with time, but that the Jubilee secretariat was already undertaking measures to ensure that the party's name would ring for posterity.

"It is not easy, but it is possible. We rely a lot on the President, the DP and the Sec-Gen Raphael Tuju for such moves. These leaders are directly involved in party affairs. We want to create politicians for the future, not just in the moment and that's it," Mwemusi explained

He revealed that one of the agendas the party had taken was the formation of party offices in the grassroots and that the party was mulling Party Schools System to nurture the upcoming leaders to take over the mantle of leadership from the current political class.

"We want to create a party that exists on the basis of what it does rather than just its political will. Politicians come and go, but for the party to remain, there has to be something that attracts people to it," he stated.

The communications director stated that at the moment, the party is conducting training at the party's regional offices to ensure that the future leaders are familiar with the party manifesto and political parties' acts and other party roles.

Such moves, he stated, would ensure that the Jubilee party remains relevant even in the years to come.
