Uhuru Challenged by 100-Year-Old Woman During Birthday Party

An elderly woman from Nyeri County posed a heartfelt challenge to President Uhuru Kenyatta during her birthday party.

According to a report by People Daily, the centenarian, identified as Emma Wangechi, celebrated the feat in one of her daughters' house in Ichuga Village in Nanyuki on Friday, January 3, with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

“To (President) Uhuru Kenyatta, much greetings, please ask Kenyans to unite so that the country can live in peace,” read part of the message.

During the party in which she was aided in cutting a cake, Wangechi, a mother of five, also disclosed that she had met Blessed Sister Irene ‘Nyaatha’ Stephani who was beatified by the Catholic Church, when she visited their home in Gikondi in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.

Her father had invited the sister to their home in the early 1920s to teach the children how to pray.

“She used to come to our home often riding on a horse and would immediately start teaching the children and other villagers on how to recite Catholic prayers in Latin language and that’s how we became Catholics.

“I became very fond of the Catholic religion and that’s why even today, I am a very staunch follower of the church even after sister Nyaatha died,” she continued.

The ceremony was attended by two Catholic priests, Peter Githinji and Martin Ndegwa.

The publication also noted that Wangechi was still strong despite her age, except that she experienced pain on her shoulders.

“She has a good appetite and prefers to eat traditional food such as boiled arrowroots, bananas, sweet potatoes, vegetables and fruits,” noted one of her daughters Anne Wahito (72).
