Notorious Govt Official Driving on The Wrong Side Bravely Blocked

Activist Boniface Mwangi on Tuesday, January 21, bravely moved in to block a senior government official who was being driven on the wrong side of the road in a bid to avoid traffic at a road in Nairobi.

In a video shared by Mwangi on Twitter, the vehicle with registration number GKB 488S was fast-moving against on-coming traffic in a convoy of four including a police escort when the activist intervened.

Mwangi bravely stopped his vehicle on the VIP’s path, unmoved by the efforts of a bodyguard asking him to move.

“Who are you to be driving on the wrong side? I am not moving because you’re the one on the wrong side. You don’t stay on the wrong side, that is unacceptable,” a defiant Mwangi is heard responding to orders to clear the way for the VIP.

Attempts by the angered bodyguard to knock through the window of Mwangi's vehicle were futile.

The official’s Toyota Landcruiser, two more Landcruisers and the police escorts eventually drove through the grass sidewalks to proceed with their journey in breaking the traffic rules.

In May 2019, the vehicle reportedly led to a driver losing control while giving way to the VIP who was being driven on the wrong side which ended up with the driver ramming on rail guards.

A post on Twitter by Ma3Route read;

“GKB970R Why would someone be on the opposite side of the road simply because they have a GKB 488S? Fred Matiang'i such drivers should be held personally liable.

In June 2019, the activist hit the headlines after he blocked an unknown government convoy that was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Through a video that went viral on social media, the government vehicles are seen driving on the wrong side of the road before a bodyguard alights from one of the vehicles to control traffic.

“Why are you driving on the wrong side? I’m not going to move,” Boniface Mwangi is heard stating.

After Boniface refused to heed to the call to move his car the government vehicles were forced to move to the opposite lane.

“I only give way to ambulances and fire engines. I block entitled civil servants and politicians who love to use sirens to avoid traffic.

“As a taxpayer, I expect the people in these big cars to follow the law and work towards solving the perennial traffic jams,” remarked Mwangi.
