A police officer who was manning a roadblock in Malindi, Kilifi County was allegedly kidnapped by two men on Thursday, January 29.
The men, who have since been arrested, were ferrying goods in the lorry when they were flagged down by the officer.
As soon as the lorry was signalled to halt, the officer is said to have entered for inspection but was locked inside the vehicle by the driver and his turnboy.
Afterwards, the duo sped from the scene.
According to K24 Digital, the two got to yet another roadblock and were ordered to stop by the police but failed to heed to the order.
In an unexpected move, area boda boda operators allegedly helped the police by placing boulders on the road, which slowed down the suspects' vehicle.
Though the two tried to flee, they were cornered by the riders and eventually handed to the police.
Malindi Sub-county police boss, Vitalis Otieno, told the publication that the two will be charged with attempted abduction.
This incident comes a month after another man was charged with abducting an officer on December 2, 2019, in Kisumu Town.
Gordon Ochieng was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng'arng'ar but denied charges of abducting Sergeant Godfrey Itur in with the intention of harming him.
Ochieng was also accused of inciting the public to stone and burn the officer.
