Former Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shabhal revealed Raila Odinga will donate food to residents of the coastal city after raising complaints to him.

The meeting took place on Friday, April 17, after Shabhal made a courtesy call to Raila at his home in Karen, Nairobi.

Shabhal revealed that he made a complaint to Raila not to forget Mombasa residents during the pandemic, "This morning I went to see Baba to complain.

"I reminded Baba that he also has children in Mombasa and while we appreciate his gesture to send food to Kibra he must not forget his children in Mombasa.

"I am starting my food distribution next week and I wanted him to also remember us in Mombasa. He graciously arranged to send me some food to distribute on his behalf."

Raila and his wife Ida on Thursday, April 9, handed a consignment to Kibra residents, which included food, sanitizer, soap, oil and water, through the national government.

The Mombasa politician and businessman noted he will consult leaders of Mombasa County on how best to reach a large number of people with donations.

"I will discuss this with Gov. Joho and community leaders on the best way forward and to make sure that as many people benefit as possible. This is a great contribution to Gov. Joho's drive to help our people. Thank you Baba."

Covid-19 has affected various sectors of the economy and the situation has been worsened with Mombasa currently under the cessation of movement.

Shabhal added that he had a chat with Raila how to resuscitate the economy, "We also had long discussions on how best we can revive our economy with job creation and economic incentives post-Corona and SGR. We must prepare for the future.

"Yes, we are going through very difficult times and we are all being called to do our part. This too shall pass."

The coast region has been over the years a stronghold for Raila as he has enjoyed a huge following in the area.
