Veteran Boxer Dick Felix Dies After Heart Attack

Legendary boxer and former international light flyweight champion Dick Felix has passed.

The family of the deceased confirmed that Felix passed away on June 18, at his home in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado county.

A close friend Sammy Kitumba stated that the veteran boxer succumbed after suffering a heart attack.

"He looked sound and we were shocked only to wake up the following day and find out he's no more," Felix's Sister D'Souza told journalists.

The former international light flyweight champion will be remembered for his prowess in the ring with his peak being in the 1970s where he represented Kenya in the East and Central Africa Boxing Championships.

He started his boxing career at Bangladesh Boxing Club in Nairobi under the supervision of late South African tactician Eddy 'Papa' Musi.

The boxer brought glory to the county as competed alongside his brother Felix Maina, who represented Kenya in the 1972 Munich Olympics in Germany.

He leaves behind a widow and five children and will be buried on Wednesday, June 24, at Lang'ata Cemetary.

"We seek your support to enable us accord him a befitting send off. Our tentative budget is Sh235,000," the burial committee said. 

Earlier in May 20, veteran Kenyan Premier League (KPL) coach Henry Omino succumbed aged 71 at a Kisumu hospital to thyroid cancer.

Omino was a household name in Kenya’s football coaching a number of local clubs.
