The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Monday, October 5, summoned two Nairobi bus companies over Murang'a chaos.
In a statement, the authority explained that the managers of Neo Kenya Mpya Commuters Limited and Joy Kenya Services Limited were scheduled to appear before it.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a representative from the agency failed to indicate the reason for the summon neither did he mention the date.
"In implementation of the PSV Regulations, 2014 and in consultation with the Inspector General, the Authority has summoned the officials of Neo Kenya Mpya Commuters Limited and Joy Kenya Services Limited to appear before it to provide an insight into the incidents reported to have occurred at Kenol, Muranga County on Sunday 4th October, 2020," read the statement from the authority.
Our attempts to reach the management of the two bus companies proved futile as our calls went unanswered.
On Sunday morning, chaos erupted in Murang'a where Deputy President William Ruto was set to preside over a fundraising event in Kenol, at the AIPCA Church hosted by local MP Alice Wahome.
In the evening of the same day, the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai ordered for the arrest of Wahome and her colleague Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) over the mayhem.
In the same statement, the police indicated that the motor vehicles, which were hired to ferry the goons, be tracked and detained to assist in ongoing investigations.
Neo Kenya Mpya company has found itself on the spot for the wrong reasons before after it got involved in various accidents.
In 2016, a section of Thika residents held protests against the fleet after a bus bearing the name got involved in a fatal accident in a head on collision with a saloon car.
The company is said to command a fleet of as much as 90 buses.
In 2019, A woman was forced to amputate her legs after she was ran over by a Kenya Mpya bus along Thika Superhighway which sparked another wave of protests.
