K24 TV anchor Anne Kiguta, on Sunday, October 18, opened her prime time broadcast with a bold apology after last minute cancellation of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro interview.

Kiguta had prepared to host the fierce defender of Deputy President William Ruto on her Punchline Show, but the management's last-minute change of heart made it impossible.

In her apology, the anchor revealed that she disagreed with her bosses' decision, but maintained that they also reserved the right to dictate the direction of the station's content.

"We at Punchline invited the fiery first time legislator Ndindi Nyoro on the programme. The Kiharu legislator, as you well know, is a staunch defender of Deputy President William Ruto who has cast his aspersions on the BBI process. That interview has been cancelled.

"As the host of this programme, I have a responsibility to you the viewer and so I must state that this was not my decision and I respectfully disagree with it," stated Kiguta.

She further explained that she endeavors to invite all politicians from all walks of life in line with her duty as a journalist.

"The management of the station was of a contrary opinion and had their considered views, concerns by which this programme is bound.

"I must also say that this is a decision that is within their rights because as they say, management reserves the right of admission and so my apologies to the viewers of this programme," she added.

After learning about the cancellation, Nyoro, however, heaped a huge blame on the dynasty culture explaining that it was responsible for the show's cancellation.

He also praised Kiguta's opening monologue boldly showing her position in the matter.

"Cancelled. Dynasties cannot stomach the truth, not in their media house. But why invite us (Hustlers) in the first place?

"Thank you Ann Kiguta for being forthright. I appreciate your honest apology to the viewers," stated Nyoro.

Kiguta was also hailed by her peers and viewers in equal measure with some calling her an excellent journalist

"A journalist par excellence! I commend you for this bold statement," stated Shiksha Arora.

"I want to salute Anne Kiguta for this bold statement. We owe our audiences the truth. Journalism is about the truth. Nothing else matters without the truth. We must win back journalism in Kenya," stated Oliver Mathenge.
