Police Officer Lobs Teargas into Girlfriend's House

A police officer on Wednesday, December 9, is alleged to have lobbed a teargas canister into his girlfriend's house in Nyamarabe, in Kisii County.

According to a police report filed at the Nyamarabe Police Station, the officer is said to have thrown the teargas when the woman was away.

However, her 15-year-old daughter was in the house at the time. 

The teargas canister is said to have exploded in the teenager's room.

“Mum was away when the officer came over. I do not know why he threw the teargas inside the house," she stated.

Luckily, the minor managed to escape unhurt.

Police have launched investigations into the matter having recovered the exploded canister.

A similar incident occurred in June 2019, in Nyeri county when a police officer threw a teargas canister at his girlfriend during an argument at Karatina Township.

The incident was reported at Karatina Police Station when the officer had a disagreement with his lover and opted for the extreme measure.

"Kemboi, a tenant in the said plot had a disagreement with his girlfriend and exploded a tear gas canister which forced the reporter and other ten tenants and their children to scamper outside the building as they fled from the fumes," a police report stated.
