Detectives attached to the DCI on Friday, April 9, arrested a man who is believed to have killed his son following a search that lasted for almost a year.

The man is said to have attempted to flee the country on a Qatar-bound flight before the police apprehended him at the airport. He had been on the run since June 2020.

According to police, the murder took place in a village in Kisii county when the father and son engaged in a squabble in their home.

The brother who was present during the incident told detectives that a disagreement arose after their father who was intoxicated, demanded to know what he had brought home from his day at the local centre.

"Incensed by his father’s remarks since he was jobless and had gone to look for a job that didn’t come by, Byron posed a similar question to his father, asking him what he had to show for his day’s activities other than returning home in a drunken stupor," police stated.

This prompted a scuffle, with the father allegedly taking a knife to his son's throat which led to his death.

Following the incident, the father had been in hiding keeping a low profile not to be caught by police.

Police revealed that he had been operating between Nakuru and Nairobi during the months he was being sought.

His proverbial forty days were up when police spotted him preparing to fly out of the country.

He will be arraigned in court to face charges for the murder of his son.

The offence of manslaughter is punishable by the maximum penalty of life imprisonment under section 205 of the Penal Code.
