Kisii Governor James Ongwae has stepped in and cleared the hospital bill in aid of a mother who delivered quintuplets at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Sellah Nyanchera gave birth to a bundle of joy - and had her story feature on KTN News. Her husband Douglas Nyaoko told KTN News that he had lost his job and went on to plead for help.
"The children's mother is getting better. I appeal for any help because I have not had a job. I just left school in 2018, and I have been married for two years," stated Nyaoko
The governor, through a representative, waived the hospital bill and promised to issue the family with an NHIF card to help cater for their medical needs.
He also promised to work closely with the family to ensure that they are taken care of since their birth marked a historical turn point at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
"The doctor assured us that the babies are doing well. I just bring greetings to the mother to say that we will walk the journey with them. We already talked to the father of the children and assured of our support.
"It is a joyous occasion. I also bring greetings from the governor. He has promised to waive the hospital bills. At the same time he will ensure they have NHIF cards," stated the representative.
Nyanchera was blessed with five children, four girls and a boy, all of whom are said to be doing well.
In an earlier interview with The Standard said that life was not very easy having shelved his dreams of joining the seminary..
“I am currently relying on menial jobs to feed my family. My brother, who allocated me a room in his house, has been of significant help to me and my family. With the arrival of the new family members, my financial woes are likely to worsen.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be a father of five children in one go," he stated at the time
The quintuplets were born on Thursday, April 15.
