Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has denied arrest allegations following claims that she had been arrested for flouting curfew regulations.
Social Media was on Sunday, July 25 night awash with claims of her arrest with reports indicating that she had been arrested in Nairobi’s Hurlingham area and held at Kileleshwa Police Station.
The Senator, through her Social Media accounts, however, trashed the allegations as mere rumours being peddled by bloggers.
Attempts by Kenyans.co.ke to confirm the allegations from her were futile as her calls and texts went unanswered by the time of going to press.
The Officer Commanding Police Division in charge of Kilimani did not respond to our calls to independently verify the reports.
The arrest reports sparked outrage from a section of Kenyans inclined to the Deputy President William Ruto's political divide especially coming in the backdrop of the arrest of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, July 23.
Gachagua was picked from his Nyeri home on Friday, July 23 by officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
"As predicted, two dozens of DCI officers raided my Nyeri home and arrested me to face trumped-up charges of money laundering.
"I am being driven to Nairobi at reckless speed to spend the weekend in the cells," read part of the post shared by Gachagua at the time.
He is currently being held at Gigiri Police Station awaiting production in court to face money-laundering related charges.
The arrest led to DP Ruto allies condemning Gachagua's apprehension citing that it was politically instigated.
They also claimed that some officers in government were pursuing unlawful, irregular and unconstitutional means to incorporate an armed militia in order to disrupt the 2022 General election.
"Their sole purpose is to terrorise Kenyans and destabilizing the country during the 2022 General Election," read part of the statement from the Ruto allies.
