Three people among them two police officers including the head of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Police Station have been charged with soliciting a bribe of Ksh 50,000.

A report by K24 TV on Tuesday, August 3 indicated that the three solicited the bribe from a cattle farmer, Peter Muhia, after they detained his eight cows.

The three are identified as Tirus Ndambuki Musyoka, Kyalo Musyao Nthiwa and Francis Bundi Wilson. They served as Lukenya Location Chief, Inspector of Police Joska Police Post and Officer Commanding KBC Police Station respectively before their arrest.

The two, who appeared before Anti-Corruption Magistrate Felix Kombo at Milimani Law Courts, were accused of detaining the cows at KBC Police Station.

"Titus Ndambuki Musyoka, Francis Bundi Wilson and Kyalo Munyao Nthiwa, you are charged that at Joska shopping centre within Machakos County being persons employed by a public in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government as Chief Lukenya location, commanding KBC Police Station and Inspector of Police Joska jointly requested for a bride of Ksh50,000 from Peter Muhia with the intent that in consequence, you would release his cattle,” read the charge sheet in part.

The three are also facing additional three counts in relation to the charge including accepting the bribe contrary to the Penal Code.

They were released on a cash bail of Ksh 75,000 or bond of Ksh 500,000 each.

This comes barely a week after the National Police Service (NPS) intervened and vowed to punish three traffic police officers captured on video soliciting bribes from motorists.

NPS Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) boss Mohammed Amin noted that the three offices who were filmed along Kangundo Road will face disciplinary action should they be found culpable of the offence of soliciting for bribes.

A secretly recorded video surfaced online on Saturday, July 24 showing new tricks the officers have been employing in the correction of bribes.

In the clip, three traffic police officers are seen ordering PSVs to stop after which some civilians standing beside them get into the vehicle, pick some money from the touts and alight.
