The Nation Media Group's flagship digital media brand, Nation.Africa has turned one.

The brand was launched last year in what was a bold step in the media house's quest to break new frontiers in the digital media market.

The digital media brand was established in a move geared at making the media house a modern digital content company.

The launch of Nation.Africa was the beginning of the group’s digital transformation journey and aimed at taking up leadership in the mobile publishing landscape in Africa.

Since its launch, the media house has been in the frontline in creation of new and exciting content such as Nation Puzzles and Nation Audio.

“We continue to tell our stories which deserve to be untold – corrected, contextualized, retold. In a world exceedingly bombarded by fake news, prejudice and stereotyping,” the Nation stated.

Since launching the country's first paywall, Nation has registered impressive subscriptions on its digital platforms. The media house notes that many of its programmes under the flagship project have materialized in just 12 months.

“From the opportunity to create content verticals such as Nation Puzzles and Nation Audio, to hitting over 355,000 registrations on the platform and launching the first ever content paywall in the Kenyan media industry with over 115,000 paid subscribers to date – these are very encouraging milestones,” added Nation.

To appreciate its audience, Nation will on Friday, September 3, to Monday 6,11:59pm rolled out a special flash sale inviting the audience to be part of the transformation journey.

“From today till Monday 11:59pm EAT, we will have a special flash sale. Invite your friends and family to participate in Empowering Africa. Subscribe Today!”

“This is no small feat, and we are grateful to you who has made this all possible - to bring to life an ambitious digital transformation journey. Thank you for being part of the Nation. Africa mission to transform society positively,” concluded the Media House.

Nation Media Group's Head of External Affairs and Marketing, Clifford Makokha, noted that the platforms success is attributed to the audience.

"We could not have done this without all of your support, feedback, insights and your contribution to quality and transformative journalism," wrote Makokha on his LinkedIn page.

The acclaimed marketer, noted that the Covid-19 pandemic was a blessing in disguise to the media house.

"A crisis can be a blessing in disguise. The Covid-19 was a great driver of NMG’s digital transformation. It created a great opportunity to re-engineer the business from a traditional media business model to a digital reader revenue model," deduced Makokha, adding that the transformation was born of great minds.

"Digital transformation is never about tech or tools. It needs to start with a paradigm shift of the mindset. We needed to quickly adapt, change our ways of working and become more agile while believing in ourselves to start something that has never been done in Kenya and East Africa before."
