Kenya Has The Third Worst Internet Quality in Africa

Kenya has the third-worst internet quality in Africa in research conducted by Surfshark.com

This is according to the 2021 Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index report published on Wednesday, September 29.DQL Index report is based on global research was on digital wellbeing in 110 countries.

DQL index is calculated by looking at the impact of five core pillars: internet affordability, internet quality, e-infrastructure, e-security and e-government.

In terms of internet quality, Kenya was ranked position 108 out of 110.

Ethiopia, which has the worst internet quality in Africa is ranked 110 and is followed by  Angola coming in at position 109. This is after the country recorded the biggest drop in internet bandwidth.

However, Kenya ranked third in Africa in the general DQL index coming after South Africa and Mauritius. This was a drop from their position two ranking in 2020.

The latter and former were ranked 68th and 74th globally while Kenya was ranked position 79.In terms of affordability. internet in Kenya has the cheapest internet in East Africa.

However, Kenya emerged as the country with the best e-infrastructure, ranking at position 58.

It is closely followed by Mauritius and Tunisia, which come in second and third respectively. Kenya recorded the second-highest e-government index coming second to South Africa.

Nigeria was established to have the best e-security in the continent. Kenya came in second to the West African country.

In a report by the World Intellectual Property Organization, Kenyans were ranked the second most innovative people on the continent.
