Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, pledged to support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga as long as he met one condition.

During an interview at Radio Maisha on Wednesday, January 12, the Tujibebe Wakenya party leader disclosed that he met Raila and asked him to fulfil his promises if elected as the country's fifth president.

"A few days ago, I met Raila when he toured Ruiru and I told him that he will only get our (Mt Kenya) votes by delivering the things that he plans to do if he is elected as president in August 2022, now. That is the only way he will gain our trust," Kabogo explained.

"If he can start now (pre-election), I'm telling you, I will support him," he added.

Kabogo added that he asked all the leaders who want to work with him to detail how they will address the rising public debt, corruption, and unemployment.

However, he affirmed that he was not ready to join hands with selfish leaders who put their interests above Kenyans' wishes.

Asked why he dropped his presidential bid, the former Governor explained that the voters asked him to shelve his plans and focus on running in 2027 as he had delayed in announcing his 2022 bid.

"Many people told me that I would lose my money as there are only two horses in this race. I realised that they were saying the truth. I am a servant, I have no regrets for dropping my bid. I know my time will come. But let me tell you, I would make a better president than most of these people.

"I have been tried. Kenyans should vote for people according to their capacity. All these people who are running have occupied top positions. What have they done that warrants them to be elected as president? All they have are stories we have heard before," he noted.

In 2017, Ferdinand Waititu floored Kabogo to clinch the governor's seat after garnering 716,336 votes against the latter's 192,045 votes. Waititu was, however, impeached and was succeeded by the incumbent, James Nyoro.
