Former KTN Journalist Sarah Mwangi announced her entry into politics seeking to unseat Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mwangi stated that she was inspired to pursue the seat after picking cue from her interactions with politicians in her 8-year media career.

Mwangi explained that her engagements with politicians ignited a need in her to bring change to Nairobi. She added that many young people are afraid of stepping up to leadership positions due to the controversies associated with politics.

"I am stepping up for better legislation and representation of the people. Change starts with us and If we don’t stand up then we miss out on a lifelong change of our lives now and for future generations.

"The youth must be part of the change-makers and not spectators. We have previously been watching others while demanding change. Let us be the change we advocate for. Our forefathers fought for this, let us live it and make Kenya independent again," she stated.

Mwangi noted that Nairobi needs a stern leadership that will not politicise the lives of residents but rather work on improving lives and creating an enabling environment for businesses.

"My predecessors have done the bare minimum but I am going for the seat because the time is now. There are lots of women's issues that have not been taken care of and this forms my main agenda.

"Empowerment of women and youth, better policies for businesses to thrive and respect for women as humans and not second class citizens," Mwangi stated.

The former K24 journalist added that she plans to work with the County leadership and administration that will be elected in the August 9 polls to ensure that crucial issues such as youth empowerment projects and improvement of the creative industry are given top priority.

"We shall work in unison with the leadership of Nairobi county and youth and women groups to make county 47 a proper friendly economic hub. We have to make it easy for people to run businesses, from licensing to security, to increase revenue.

"The arts and creative economy must be key and supported financially and policy-wise. This is an industry that can change Kenya’s economy and I shall ensure there’s a huge boost for this," she pointed out.

At the moment Mwangi is negotiating with various political parties to pick which best aligns with her aspirations.
