Marsabit Governor, Mohammud Ali, denounced Deputy President William Ruto during a tour of his own backyard for campaigns.
The exchange began on Wednesday, July 6, when the DP claimed that Mohammud was undecided on which presidential candidate to support between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and him.
Ruto further argued that he had noticed the Marsabit governor secretly supported him and his heart was not fully in Azimio la Umoja.
In a rejoinder, the governor, who is seeking to retain his seat under the Azimio la Umoja umbrella, told off the DP noting that his allegiance to Raila was solid.
He further noted that the ground had shifted and was behind Azimio la Umoja since the Raila-led movement had the capabilities to steer the county economically.
"I have declared publicly that this community of Marsabit will support Azimio and elect Raila Amollo Odinga.
"This county needs development from the national government but we cannot continue supporting him for now," stated Mohammud.
During his tour, the DP also sensationally claimed that some of the governors in Raila Odinga's circle had corruption charges and only aligned with him for protection.
In a jibe directed at the former Prime Minister, Ruto further challenged him to stop blaming the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after developing cold feet over the handling of the upcoming elections.
Raila, on the other hand, threatened to boycott elections if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) does not use the manual register to compliment the electronic one.
Speaking during a campaign drive in Githunguri, Kiambu county, Raila stated that the IEBC must embrace both manual and electronic voter registers and if they do not, there would no election on August 9.
He insisted that both registers must be accessible due to alleged attempts to sabotage the upcoming election.
“With a manual register, it will be easy to tell how many people have voted in every polling station. In the electronic register, there is no record that remains.
“That is why we are saying that there must be a manual register at every polling station, it is not negotiable. We are telling the IEBC they must have a manual register along with the biometric identification of voters on that day; failure to which, there will be no election," the former Prime Minister stated.
