The Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (Kasneb) has rolled out a new syllabus that will allow students to sit for on-demand exams.
Kasneb is set to move away from offering students scheduled exams like before as it plans to introduce new qualifications that will meet emerging market demands.
The new curriculum will focus on the students and their strengths and preparing them for real-life challenges in the job market.
Kasneb CEO, Dr Nicholas Letting announced they would test the competencies of the person in the areas of taxation, public finance management, auditing and management accounting.
Among the changes included in the new syllabus includes a focus on digital literacy with an emphasis on emerging technologies.
It also introduces practical papers on data analytics which readies candidates for real-life scenarios where big data and analytics are the new norms.
For decades, Kasneb was offering professional exams twice every year, in May and November. However, it is shifting gears and the new plan is to offer exams when students are ready, as many as four times a year.
This transition will make the programmes more flexible and enable students to obtain their qualifications within a relatively shorter period.
In 2020, the organisation was working on a plan to offer online examinations that would be available to candidates at any time during the year.
Kasneb was compelled, like other learning and professional training institutions, to shift its strategies, with the focus on flexibility and convenience after the pandemic broke out.
"We are currently putting in place modalities to introduce online examinations which will see candidates book for examinations as and when they are ready to sit them at any moment."
"Given the unprecedented pandemic that has brought about a worldwide health and economic crisis, online examinations will provide the candidates with a more flexible route of acquiring professional qualifications," Dr Letting added.
He further noted that the organisation was also working on a programme to make teaching and learning more adaptable, using online outlets, and enable more professionals to enrol and pursue courses in their comfort.
