Outgoing Murang'a governor Mwangi Wa Iria made sensational claims that UDA flag-bearer William Ruto colluded with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati to lock him out of the ballot.

Speaking on Saturday, July 23, during an Azimio rally in Mumbi, Muran'ga County, Wa Iria claimed Ruto and Chebukati held secret meetings where they discussed how to disqualify him from the State House race.

He opined that he was collateral since he was viewed as a threat to Kenya Kwanza's infiltration into the Mount Kenya region.

"I put my name forward to run for president under Usawa but that journey was cut short by a man called Chebukati. When he was asked why he failed to give a reason.

"Upon a personal enquiry, I found out that whom he was doing business with people who felt that Mount Kenya was their region. I know where the meetings were held and how many goats were slaughtered," Wa Iria stated.

The Usawa party leader maintained that Ruto and his lieutenants celebrated his disqualification from the poll adding that only Azimio's Raila Odinga checked up on him.

He further made public details of a three-hour meeting between him and the former Premier that led to him joining Azimio and endorsing the former PM's candidature.

"Raila convened a meeting between him and me where I shared with him my plight. He told me that no one could curtail my political ambition and that it was part of the journey-one he also went through.

"I told him (Odinga) that I planned on creating discourse through the Usawa Resistance Movement but he advised against it. He told me that was space for everyone in Azimio,2 he stated.

IEBC had disqualified Wa Iria on grounds of not meeting the threshold of submitting 2,000 signatures from at least 24 counties, claiming he only presented copies from nine counties.

The decision saw the county boss block the entrance of the Bomas of Kenya, where Chebukati was meeting presidential candidates in protest.

Wa Iria further stormed the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi demanding to seek an audience with the commission's chair, adding that he would file a missing person's report with the police to help him locate Chebukati.
