A widow and her two children are still battling a protracted case pitting her against her stepsons over the inheritance of her late husband's property.

Without disclosing the value of the estate at stake, the widow, Zipporah Gakii, who was widowed aged 22 years in Eldoret, noted that she has been battling the case for 20 years now.

Since, Gakii claims that she has been subjected to torture and at times, thugs get sent over to her house.

"You are a widow, children are young and you have been taken to court. Then there were threats and thugs were sent to my house.

"The journey was so hard because I was just a housewife with three young children. You are then threatened," she noted in an interview with NTV.

At the time, she was left with two children and her application for the estate's administration was blocked when her stepsons filed a counter-motion.

"I have been in court for 20 years. I had gone to the court to ask for a grant of administration. The case has been handled by three lawyers. I don't remember the number of judges," she added.

The Kenyan Law signed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, however, provided that only the spouse of the deceased and their children are entitled to inherit their property upon their demise.

In Kenya, cases of protracted fights over inheritance have been a thorn in the flesh and cut across from the billionaires to regular Kenyans.

On Friday, November 11, a resident from Kirinyaga who was battling his mother demanding his share of the family land died hours after being taken into police custody.

The confrontation got physical before his arrest and the mother was rescued by her other sons.

In yet a separate incident, former President Daniel Moi's grandson Collins Kibet was kicked out of his house in February 2022 after failing to clear six-month arrears amounting to Ksh240,000.

While appearing in court, the embattled dynasty descendant claimed that his problems were compounded by the family's failure to included him the management of multi-billion estate that was left by his late father Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi, who passed on in 2019.
