Veteran Swahili news anchor, Beatrice Gatonye, was awarded the International Peace Award by the International College of Peace Studies.
The news anchor at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) was honoured on Friday, December 16, for her outstanding efforts in promoting peace worldwide.
She was selected from the Media Personality category scooping the 2022 award.
"It is home guys. I thank God. I thank you for always championing me. It is our win. Let’s celebrate," she stated.
The news anchor was praised for her charitable acts of service to humanity in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner over the years.
Gatonye, alongside ex-K24 journalist Ahmed Juma Bhalo, anchors the Darubini 7 pm Kiswahili news show at KBC every Wednesday and Thursday.
She is also a gospel musician, a career she launched at the end of 2021.
"I am proud to say I hit the studio and recorded three songs, singing has been my passion from a tender age," Gatonye stated.
She also describes herself as a champion of people living with hearing impairment.
The International College of Peace Studies, established in 2016, focuses on humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
It provides innovative training programs to government agencies, foundations, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
"We tailor the training to meet client needs and pair it with effective adult quality assured learning techniques drawing from the top wide experience of our faculty’s in the field experience of humanitarian service." the institute stated on its website.
