Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Friday, December 2022, informed members of the general public about a planned temporary closure of a section of Mombasa Road.

KeNHA asked motorists to consider other routes during the seven-day closure that will commence on Monday, December 26, 2022 up to Sunday, January 1, 2023.

We wish to notify the general public that there will be a temporary traffic diversion on Mombasa Road towards Nairobi CBD,” KeNHHA Director General Engineer K Ndung’u announced.

KeNHA cautioned that traffic will be re-routed from around Subaru Kenya and Simba Corpo Motors, all the way to Panesar Center on Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

According to KeNHA, the temporary closure has been occasioned by the need to complete pending construction work on the highway.

To ensure the smooth running of traffic, motorists are advised to keep a keen eye on road posts and barriers as will duly be erected on various parts of the highway.

“Motorists will be guided by traffic signage that will be installed on the road,” KeNHA noted.

KeNHA has been carrying similar construction works on the roads, including Waiyaki Way, around Westlands Nairobi.

The authority chose to capitalise on low traffic in Nairobi during the December festive season to finish up the remaining work on the road.

Meanwhile, for the stated period, motorists were advised to adhere to the required speed limits when approaching the construction zone and passing through the temporary diversion.

The announcement came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki revealed that his Ministry will provide police officers with the necessary support to enforce the safety of every Kenyan on the road.

"Our records over the years and investigations that have followed many of these accidents yield overwhelming evidence that many of these accidents are, and can be, preventable.

"This is achievable if our road users practice more fidelity to sensible road mannerisms on our roads, observing traffic regulations and a stricter enforcement of and compliance with the relevant traffic rules," he announced.
