The Eastern Bypass will be closed on Sunday, February 26 in the area between Green Spots Gardens and the Thika Road junction in Ruiru.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced the planned closure on Saturday, February 25, citing the ongoing construction works on the Highway.

According to a statement seen by Kenyans.co.kethe authority stated that the disruption will last between 6 am and 6 pm.

“Traffic Disruption along Eastern Bypass tomorrow, Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 6 am till 6 pm. (Green spot gardens-Thika road junction) ," the statement read.

Inbound traffic approaching Thika Road from the Green Spot Gardens will be diverted to join the outbound lane of the dual carriageway.

In the statement, KURA also urged drivers to exercise caution while driving through the diverted route to avoid gridlock.

The announcement came days after a similar one notifying road users about impending disruptions on the same highway along the other lane.

KURA embarked on the Ksh12.5 billion project to dual the Bypass in 2021 in a bid to enhance mobility along the highway connecting Thika Road to Mombasa Road. The majority of construction works in the dualling were completed by the end of 2022 - with only a few touch-ups left.

In the statement shared on Saturday, February 25, KURA notified the public that the disruptions were planned to allow the contractor to finish the final dressing of the road.

However, the disruptions have in the past been met with furore as some Kenyans expressed their frustrations with the inconveniences caused.

Owing to the intensity of traffic flow on the Highway, especially on weekends, drivers were held in traffic gridlock for hours on previous occasions when KURA announced disruption.

That was despite KURA's planning the disruptions ahead of time.
