The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on Monday, February 27, announced an upgrade of the Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).
In a notice signed by Acting Commissioner General, KRA explained that the improvements were part of the launch of the second phase of eTIMS.
The new platform would enable business owners to file returns more efficiently using several devices.
"This phase will involve rolling out of the software version of the system to provide additional ways of transmitting electronic invoices to KRA on a real-time basis," the notice read in part.
Notably, the new system will be available in three channels including an online portal, a mobile application and an application at no extra cost.
"The online portal will facilitate the real-time filing of invoices while the mobile application will run on mobile phones and provide another avenue for issuing tax invoices," KRA stated.
On the other hand, the application will enable users to facilitate integration with businesses that prefer to continue using their existing billing systems.
The taxman expressed confidence that the new adjustments would improve the experience of taxpayers in managing their tax invoices and streamline the process of managing them.
Kenyans were invited to give feedback on the new system by contacting the authority on the phone and via email.
The unveiling of the new system adds to the measures the Authority put in place to better services.
In December 2022, KRA added to its platform a new section that enabled Kenyans to claim refunds for tax remittances made by mistake.
Once logged into their iTax portal, Kenyans can make an application by clicking the 'Refund' tab on the menu and then proceeding to the 'Refund on Tax Paid in Error' section.
This will pop up a form which applicants are required to fill out. One is also required to upload a document providing requisite evidence and indicate the period in which the taxes were paid by mistake.
