Kenya Out of Top 50 World's Most Corrupt Countries – Report

Kenya made it out of the top 50 most corrupt countries according to the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index report.

In the 2022 report, Kenya was ranked 57 most corrupt country out of 180 sampled countries.

In a similar report in 2021, Kenya was ranked the 49th most corrupt country in the world.

Transparency International measures corruption using a score of 1-100 with 1 being the most corrupt and 100 least corrupt.

In 2021, Kenya was given a score of 30/100 while in 2022 it improved and was awarded a score of 32/100.

African countries were the majority of the top 20 countries with Somalia being the most corrupt country in the world with a score of 12/100.

South Sudan which was the most corrupt country in the world in 2021 was listed third in 2022.

Other African countries in the top 20 included; Libya (6), Equatorial Guinea (9), Burundi (10), Chad (14), Democratic Republic of Congo (15), Guinea Bissau (16), Congo (17), Sudan (18), Eritrea (19) and Zimbabwe (20).

Other countries in East Africa Community included; Uganda (35), Tanzania (83) and Rwanda (126).

Uganda had a corruption index score of 26/100, Tanzania 38/100 and Rwanda 51/100 which was one of the best rankings for African countries.

Only Botswana had a score at 60/100 and was ranked position 35 among the least corrupt countries in the world.

Sub-Saharan Africa had an average score of 32/100 which Transparency International attributing it to “Restrictions and attacks on civic space and basic freedoms that threaten security and stability, democracy and human rights.”

Western Europe was ranked as the least corrupt bloc in the world with a score of 66/100.

The least corrupt countries in the world include; Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore and Sweden.
