As Hasu Patel’s philanthropic activities' future remains unclear, a woman he rescued in 2022 has come out to beg the Mombasa-based billionaire to continue helping the downtrodden.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, the beneficiary revealed how Hasu helped her get surgery for a rare lung condition she had battled for 12 years.

She narrated that she went to a private hospital in Mombasa and was told she needed immediate surgery to remove half of her lung.

“When I was giving birth to my son, the doctor broke three of my ribs and I lived with the condition unknowingly for years.

“After the tests, it was found out that the broken ribs had almost completely destroyed one of my lungs and I was referred to an immediate surgery procedure,” she told Kenyans.co.ke.

While she needed the life-saving procedure, she did not have insurance or funds to cover the surgery.

“The doctor told me that he could refer my case to Patel and see if he can help,” she explained what transpired next.

The billionaire who owns Mombasa Cement Limited agreed to settle the bill to the last cent.

“After I was admitted, he took care of everything. If I had done it at a private hospital, it would have cost me upwards of Ksh1.2 million which I could not afford,” the grateful lady explained.

The lady who is now recovering after the successful surgery which was done at Coast General Provincial Hospital regretted that Hasu’s charitable activities were being shrouded by Mombasa politics.

“Our politicians should research how many people Hasu has helped and appreciate the impact he has in the Coast region,” she explained.

She added that the billionaire was non-discriminatory when helping people.

“I do not know Hasu personally nor have I ever met him. He was sent my medical records and agreed to help without us meeting in person,” she detailed.

On Wednesday, May 24, there was concern after the billionaire removed elephant sculptures in Makupa roundabout, Mombasa after a disagreement with the county administration.

The fallout stemmed from an alleged order by the county administration to bar Hasu from clearing medical bills for patients.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir’s aide revealed that there was a miscommunication in the directive and that Hasu was free to continue with his charitable works.
