The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three people in connection with the murder of a businessman based in Vihiga County.
Detectives from the investigative agency arrested the trio on Thursday at Yala Township, Siaya county.
The DCI indicated the arrests were effected after the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau linked the suspects to the crime scene and interviewed the witnesses.
Upon their arrest, the DCI recovered a number of personal items belonging to the murder victim.
However, the detectives did not detail the exact items recovered from the suspects.
"The three who were found with some of the deceased’s personal effects will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code," the DCI stated.
Ibrahim Ondieko, 27, was murdered in cold blood while heading home after closing his business. He was in the company of his wife when a gang attacked them.
The wife of the deceased survived the attack, however, she sustained major injuries to the hand.
Ondieko's wife narrated that she managed to flee the scene during the attack and met police officers who were on patrol. The police rushed to the scene and rushed the businessman to the nearby hospital.
At the time, the suspects had already fled the scene.
“We had just closed our shop and were headed home when the men who had their faces covered attacked us. One of them came after me with a machete and as I shielded myself, he struck my left arm almost dismembering it,” narrated the wife.
DCI also cautioned Kenyans to be weary of the recent increase in crime rate even as the agency maintained that those involved in such incidents will be brought to book.
