Traffic Cop Draws Gun, Attempts to Shoot Nakuru MCA

Naivasha’s Viwandani Ward MCA, Mwangi Muraya has claimed that a traffic police officer attempted to shoot him inside the Nakuru County Assembly over unknown reasons.

While addressing the media on Tuesday, the MCA explained that the traffic officer had been trailing him from Gilgil and blocked his path as he made way to the County Assembly offices in Nakuru.

Muraya said that he pulled up to find out what offences he had committed as a result, but the traffic officer ordered him to produce his identification documents.

In turn, Muraya identified himself as a Member of County Assembly representing Viwandani Ward. Per his account, the MCA told the traffic police officer that he was going to the County Assembly to perform his duties as county legislator.

He claimed that the traffic officer drew out his gun and pointed it at him, threatening that he would shoot regardless of the politician's stature, even if he was president.

Muraya claimed that officers from Kapembwo Police Station, Nakuru arrived at the scene minutes past 2:00 pm and restrained the traffic cop. His gun was also seized. 

According to the MCA, this is not the first instance the traffic police officer is stalking him. 

The MCA revealed that the law enforcement officer had trailed him in the past on a number of occasions.

He appealed to police officers attached to Kapembwo station to establish the reasons behind the traffic officer's decision to operate outside the law, especially following him to the County Assembly which is a protected premises.

Additionally, he called for disciplinary action to be taken against the traffic officer including removal from the Service.

The investigations will aim to establish whether the officer violated the provisions of section 64 of the Police Act, which requires all officers to adhere to the standing orders and the Code of the Regulations for the time he is in the Service.

Failure to which, the officer shall be liable to disciplinary action as accorded by the National Police Service (NPS).
