The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will from Monday, October 16, participate in a sensitization forum revolving around ethics and integrity ahead of this year's national examinations.
The anti-graft body stated that the forum organised by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will be attended by 2023 Examination Monitors and Ministry of Education officials, including Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and his principal secretaries.
KNEC Council members and senior management are also expected to attend the event.
The forum will be held at the KNEC headquarters along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi County.
According to EACC, the sensitization will address any systemic weaknesses and loopholes that interfere with the credibility of national examinations.
The move by EACC comes days after the National Assembly Committee on Education released a report confirming that there were indeed cases of malpractice in last year’s examinations.
A Parliament Committee revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had handled a total of 68 exam malpractice cases with 44 of them pending investigation.
Some 17 cases are before court cases while 6 cases have already been prosecuted.
The committee kicked off their inquiry in January 2023, a week after the release of the 2022 national examination results following public outcry over alleged rampant cheating.
EACC's new move comes a week before the commencement of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (KCSE).
KCSE examinations are set to kick off on Monday, October 23 with rehearsals set for Thursday, October 19.
Candidates will sit for the last paper on Friday, November 24.
Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams will begin on Monday, October 30, and will end on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
