Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has recalled all officers on leave and cancelled all annual breaks ahead of the festive season.
While appearing before Parliament on Wednesday, Kindiki stated that the National Police Service (NPS) will need all hands on deck to identify potential threats and ensure the country is well manned ahead of the festivities.
He added that the festive season requires extra vigilance which he cited as the main reason behind the directive.
"For us in the security sector, this is our busiest season, as everybody retreats for holiday, we have mobilised ourselves. All those officers on leave will forfeit their leaves and we will be on duty and alert," he noted.
"We have already mapped out the country so that we can spot the potential sources of threat so that we can neutralise them before they succeed."
"I want to assure the public that we will go out of our way to remain alert and prepare ourselves across the country, noting that the festive season requires extra vigilance. We are prepared and we pray that the season will be incident-free."
Kindiki was appearing before Members of Parliament to answer questions on matters regarding the security situation across the country.
During the session, he issued a caveat, indicating that he could not comprehensively answer certain matters owing to the sensitive nature of the information.
"Let me give you the information that best answers the question that has been raised. But at the same time, be careful that the terrorists watch parliamentary proceedings and they watch statements made by the Ministry as a way to gauge what we will do next," the CS added.
The MPs also posed a question to the CS, requesting him to reconsider the government's position on not compensating the victims affected by demolitions.
In response, Kindiki pointed out that the government would create a plan to cushion the victims.
