The Postal Corporation of Kenya, popularly known as Posta Kenya, has launched long-distance bus services targeting western Kenya travellers.
In a statement by the agency managed by the Ministry of ICT on Friday, the buses will operate along the Nairobi -Kisumu - Busia route.
Posta set the prices for the route at Ksh1,600. It also posted photos of the buses to be used for the service.
The buses labelled Postliner were branded with the agency's customary white, red and blue colours.
The agency advised interested Kenyans to reach out to it for details of more services offered.
Posta Kenya is one of the government agencies whose operations have been hampered by the advancement of technology.
The agency, which was responsible for transporting letters across the country, was largely affected by the innovation of mobile phone technology which birthed emails, SMS and apps such as WhatsApp.
To adapt to the ever-changing technological sector, Posta ventured into courier services.
Joining long-distance travel is, therefore, a way of diversifying their services to stay afloat, especially during the December holidays when prices peak.
Notably, the agency joins other state corporations that have diversified into the transport industry.
For instance, Kenya Railways has buses which ply various routes from the Central Business District (CBD) to various estates such as Embakasi, Ruiru, and Kikuyu, among others.
The buses charge between Ksh30 to Ksh50.
